Humanities

On Friday, the grade 9s voted! Results will be revealed tomorrow.


Today we worked on our personal CREED task...some have completed a visual but will need to finish a written competent in their journals.

Answer the following questions in relation to Desiderata:
1. How does the poem make you feel?
2. What lessons can be found within this poem?
3. Which lessons connect to you and why? Are there specific lessons that you need to learn more about or practice or accept? Explain your answer.


Read the following 2 poems, MY CREED by Edgar Albert Guest and SUCCESS by Bessie Stanley. Choose 1 and complete an ARTWARS poetry anaylsis.

A - ABOUT - what is the poem about?
R - REPETITION - repeated words or sounds? Why?
T - TONE - feeling of the poem, emotions conveyed, mood
W - WORDS - the purpose; the effect of the words on the reader
A - Alliteration and FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE: what is used, why and what do they mean?
R - RHYME and RHYTHM - how is it used in the poem?
S - STRUCTURE - how is the poem designed? (stanzas, line structure)

AND answer the following question...how does this poem connect to your creed?









And, continuing on from last week, we discussed political spectrum, the political horseshoe, ridings from 2011 and the electoral process, as well as a brief look at the role of Media in government. Check D2L for PPTs with all the information we've covered in the last couple of weeks and beef up your journal notes.
